Key Pair

Asymmetric Key Pair

A cryptographic security method for digital files which uses two cryptographic keys that are mathematically related to one another. Data that is encrypted using one key can only be decrypted using the other key. One key is kept by the party that needs to be able to decrypt files and is known as the Private Key. The other key can be made available to anybody who wishes to use it and is known as the Public Key. The algorithm used to generate the keys is sufficiently complex to ensure it is practically impossible to generate a Private Key knowing only the contents of the Public Key.
